In the summer of 2004, veterinarian Melanie Butera had an unexpected patient: a blind and apparently dying fawn called Dillie. This story, entitled "Love on Tiny Hooves", shows us a glimpse into the life of Butera and her husband and the animal they chose to adopt in their family.
The poor fawn would not have survived the night alone, but thanks to the love that this pair of Canal Fulton, Ohio has given her, has recovered enormously.
Dillie has become an integral part of her family now. The couple treats her like a child; He loves palettes, plays with his father and even has his bedroom at home.
Seeing them together is at least touching! Melanie fought cancer in the fourth stage, but says Dillie taught her that "every life is a gift". She feels that, while saving Dillie's life, Dillie rewarded her by saving her.
